2024 Safety Series

Sedgwick is offering a comprehensive, webinar-based free educational safety series safety to current clients, which includes OWMA members enrolled in the association's workers comp. group rating program. The series covers a variety of safety topics within the workers’ compensation industry, including OSHA programs and forklift/warehouse safety.

These sessions qualify with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) for 2 hours of the 2-hour safety training requirement for group and group retrospective-rated employers.  To be eligible for the BWC safety training requirement credit, the attendee must remain in the session for at least 75% of the total session time. Logging into the webinar is required to receive the 2 hour safety credit. Attendance is not captured for anyone calling into the session. 

OSHA Safety Emphasis Programs

During this webinar we will discuss the safety emphasis programs, which are targeted enforcement strategies intended to address specific hazards or industries that pose a particular risk to workers.  In this webinar you will learn what the National, Regional and Local Emphasis programs are, how they can affect your organization and how best to prepared.  Our 2024 webinar series will then delve into three of the most common emphasis programs in future presentations later this year.

Heat Illness Prevention

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS), heat stress killed more than 800 U.S. workers and seriously injured more than 70,000 from 1992 through 2017.  As a result, OSHA announced a National Emphasis Program (NEP) on Outdoor and Indoor Heat-Related Hazards and developed guidelines for employers in specific high heat-hazard industries to use to protect their workers.  In this, Part 2 of our webinar series on OSHA Emphasis Programs, we will discuss the highlights of OSHA’s Heat Stress guidelines and lay down a foundation of how companies can protect their employees from heat related illness and be prepared for an inspection.

Forklift and Warehousing Safety

We all know that operating a forklift can be dangerous to both operators and pedestrians, which is why forklift safety has been a priority for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for many years.  In Part 3 of our webinar series on OSHA Emphasis Programs, we will discuss OSHAs new Warehousing Safety NEP as well as the regional and local emphasis programs focused on forklift safety. During this webinar we will discuss how to develop a forklift safety training program and tips on creating a safe workplace where powered industrial vehicles are in use.

Hearing Conservation Program

Although the Occupational Safety and Health Administrations’ (OSHA’s) Hearing Conservation Standard has been in place for years to protect employees from excessive noise in the workplace, a Regional Emphasis Program (REP) was rolled out to encourage employers to take steps to identify, reduce and eliminate hazards associated with exposure to high levels of noise.  In Part 4 of our webinar series on OSHA Emphasis Programs, we will break down both the Hearing Conservation Standard and the REP.  Attendees will learn what is required in order to protect employees from occupational hearing loss and equip them with the knowledge and understanding to safeguard the workplace.
