Another great year for the Midwest Wholesale Distributors Conference!
Once again, News & Brews was on point with an interactive session to help members better understand, navigate and engage in federal, state and local policy issues challenging the tobacco category. Thank you to Kyle May/Reynolds American, Ashley Kuehn/ITG Brands and Robert Smith/Altria for sharing their insights and expertise. And, thank you to National Association of Tobacco Outlets legislative consultants Tim McKinney and Josh Pruett for joining us as the session co-moderators.
News & Brews also included CNN political analyst Scott Jennings live via video from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. His Election 2024 State of Play breakdown of real-time polling data and campaign messaging commentary did not leave conference attendees short on questions during the Q&A, and was part of conversation throughout the remainder of the conference.
Perfect weather for the conference golf tournament, evening hospitality, cigar dinner and bourbon pull, and time in the casino with friends and colleagues rounded out relaxed networking opportunities for everyone.
Congratulations to OWMA member and Chief Operating Officer of Richmond Master Distributors, Scott Carrico, recipient of the 2024 Garry Adams Memorial Award. Established in 2010, the award recognizes an individual for their commitment to the industry and community.
Scott grew up in the industry and learned the operations of the family business by starting in the warehouse, working his way up and learning from other leaders and his father, current company CEO Pat Carrico, recipient of the Garry Adams Award in 2013. He is a tireless and giving advocate who gives time at the state and federal levels to support industry policy interests and programming to help businesses grow and innovate.
Scott's level of engagement and advocacy covers multiple states where the company does business, including serving as a trustee and officer of the Indiana Wholesale Distributors Association (IWDA) and the Illinois Association of Wholesale Distributors. At the national level, he has served on the Convenience Distribution Association's (CDA) Education & Research Committee, chaired both the Industry Affairs Committee and Finance Committee, was CDA Chairman in 2020, and continues to serve on the association's Board of Directors.
The 2024 Garry Adams Memorial Award was presented to Scott by IWDA's President/Chair, Erica Worrell/S. Abraham & Sons Inc (left below), and Ann Ninness, IWDA Executive Director (right below).
